This was my first time at a Country Max store, but right from the second I walked in I knew I was in pet heaven. However they didn't have what I wanted; female fancy mice, but the staff was extremely nice and offered to order them in special for me. Can't wait to go back and pick up my new pets.
I can't say the same for the poor little girl though. She is currently dying in my arms and seems to be having trouble breathing. I don't think she will make it through the night. I've tried giving her amoxi as well and Baytril is out of the question because she is under three months old. I bought Roxy from Country Max while she was sick (although I couldn't tell at first) and now she is suffering due to this sickness. I understand pet stores have no control over the health of their pets but if I can help prevent a family from experiencing the kind of pain I am going through I would definitely like to try.
Gave Polly her first public bath here. Staff was extremely helpful, found everything we needed at great prices. Very friendly place!

I got a ferret and they are really pricey but most places are and she is the sweetest thing ever! When we were there the staff was very helpful and nice! We are planning to get another one for Christmas! I expected them to be full grown like at PetCo but instead they were babies! They were soooo small and have a giant cage and they only keep two in the cage unlike PetCo! They are healthy and adorable! Best place to get a ferret by far!
I would like to start out saying the staff at this store is wonderful and super helpful, the prices are fair, and they have a huge selection. I still plan on continuing to shop here.
Very overpriced items. They carry pine shavings intended for small animals even though softwood shavings cause liver disease. They also carry live feeder animals to sell, which is an inhumane practice. There were three female mice with litters of varying ages in the same cage when I visited today. One was obviously very distressed and eating the head of one of the pinky mice, refusing to nurse. Blood was all over the interior of the tank and there were abandoned pinky mice out of the nest. They also do not ensure the sex of their animals, which is ridiculous. If your staff is not knowledgeable enough to sex your animals, do not carry them. I learned that until recently Country Max sourced their animals from Holmes Farms, an animal breeding company that was investigated and found guilty of animal cruelty. You should ask them where they obtain their animals. I will not go to Country Max for any of my needs again.
But the thing is I bought a baby girl white rat from this Country Max less than two weeks ago and she started out very sneezy and wheezy as soon as I brought her home. I am aware of what Myco is but I was hoping this was just a little cold that would go away on it's own. She ended up meeting my four adult boys through the bars of her cage and they all instantly fell very ill. I lost my boy Borris within a few hours of showing respiratory illness when he went into full blown respiratory distress and either his heart or lungs stopped :'( The other boys were pretty bad off but I was lucky to get them on Baytril and Amoxi just in time. They had never shown any symptoms prior to this.
