I’ve been shopping for a new mountain bike for a few months. I’d periodically stop in the store and talk to John and he’d humor me over talking about and looking at bikes. In the end I bought a bike elsewhere but it wasn’t for the lack customer service. Well my new bikes brakes felt like mush and I was pretty disappointed. I ended up taking my bike to Advance Cyclery and they helped me out with burping the fluid to make them nice and firm. They also gave me advice on going tubeless. They had the correct bottomless tokens for my Rockshox Pike and gave me a good price. Overall I had a great experience and will continue to take my business there.
Current management and staff (Chris / Jake) is something left to be desired. One customer came in today (08/13/2017) complaining they never received a call (Chris) after their bike was done being prepped for final sale, after a week of layover! I had a similar experience several years(2011) ago and wound up pulling my payment on a bike due to poor customer service. Short staffed or not, You should always put your customers first.
I gave them another chance today, looking for a particular item when and they lost my business. Jake was all "Creeping," up on me and i witnessed him knock over several bikes, including that customer's bike. I was not comfortable with a sale with them after this mishap and poor customer service was present.
I will be taking my business elsewhere and will never return. Period.
Friendly staff that operates with respect and integrity. Will do whatever it takes to make sure you leave happy. Not to mention I have a good conversation every time I go. There are closer bikes shops to me that I gladly drive by to go to Advance. To make a long story short i bring the bike I bought there (great prices on Giant bikes), and I bring my BMX bike there as well. Any bike need you have, they’ve got ya covered!
I'll refrain from talking about my bike buying experience here since at the time, the whole crew was at a bike convention and I had to deal with the two stand-ins who were left to mind the shop, one of which admitted he didn't ride at all, the other of which wasn't very knowledgeable and was more than a little rude. I'll chalk that whole experience up to bad timing. Subsequent trips to this shop after my bike purchase have been hit or miss, not just depending on who you get to wait on you, but also seemingly depending on their mood of the day. One day friendly, the next time not so much. The last couple of times I've been there for service or supplies, I felt as if I was bothering them by entering the store. I get a bit of an elitist attitude from them also because I'm not a rail thin 20 something and I don't look the part of a stereotypical anorexic diehard cyclist. I'm at the point now where I'll just go up the street to the other bike shop for my immediate needs.
Only place would go to purchase a bicycle or bicycle accessories. In my opinion best prices around and friendliness of staff can’t be beat. Thanks for your time and input to get me on the right bike, and the set up of baby bike trailer.
I've been in 8 different bike shops across the state in the last year, this is the only one that has been less than inviting. I've also purchased three new bikes since my original purchase here. There's a reason none of those bikes were bought from Advance Cyclery. As always, YMMV.
