I normally don't write reviews, so there had to be something that really stood out for me to do so. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, clean and the staff are very nice. While I hope to not stay again, if you have the patience I would encourage others to.
I gave the hotel a three because of customer service. Yes, the staff are nice and accommodating once you get someone. I called twice prior to my stay and the phone rang and rang. It took 3-4 tries each time before getting someone. At first I thought it was a bad day, but after arriving and ordering room service on two separate occasions I had the same experience. There doesn't appear to be a concierge or bellman, so if you want to drop you bags or ask a question you must wait in the check in line. Because there is usually a separate line to check your bags or ask questions, you don't realize this until after you've been waiting for someone and you're never acknowledged. By that time, an already long line has gotten even longer.
The Marriott is a great location for company events and conferences. The staff is attentive, courteous, and polite.
We arrived 20 minutes prior to check in, not realizing check in was at 3pm (most other places we have stayed gave been 2pm) we were told that check in wasn't until 3pm but they could hold our bags. We had other things to do so we have gave our bags and went on. We were told self parking was available on site for $15 a day. The parking garage was across the street, which wasn't a big deal. We were charged $3 for the 15 minutes we were there attempting to check in and $15 the next morning when we checked out. We would have been charged each time we came and went for parking. We booked and pre paid for a larger king room 5 months in advance. When we finally did check in we heard them tell the couple in front of us that they were getting a double room because they over booked the king rooms. We were not told that ourselves by the person who checked us in yet when we got to our room it was a double with what appeared to be full size beds. The bed we slept in was leaning to the left and my husband kept rolling in to me. Not to mention that it was a very uncomfortable bed. The bathroom was dirty. There was toothpaste on the vanity and the wall. There was also hair on the shower wall and on the floor. There were people yelling and screaming in the hallway at 2-3am multiple times. The next morning we were going to order a small breakfast before my husband's half marathon. On the room service menu it said breakfast started at 6am. We called down to order and were told they did not start serving breakfast until 7am. We had to be at the race by 6:45am which as about a 5 minute walk away. We then decided to check out the vending machine to see if there was something that wasn't too terrible to get so he at least had something in his stomach and there was only a soda machine. Needless to say even though it is a convenient location when attending the Syracuse Half marathon we will not be staying there again. This is the first time we have had any problem at a Marriott hotel.
As I mentioned, the hotel is very nice. My room was spacious and kept clean. The staff were all pleasant. This was my only frustration. If that's not an issue for you definitely a place to stay.
Food quality is very high. Everything from furniture to the floor is very well maintained and beautiful. Every member of staff I've ever encountered makes my day!
The location is very convenient and the restaurant, Eleven Waters, is a great place to eat- even if you aren't a guest at the hotel. Their gluten free options may be slightly limited, but very much appreciated and prepared very carefully. The food is delicious!
This is a true gorgeous gem! Syracuse and we tourists (I'm from Canada) owe those who restored this hotel a big thank you. What a treasure! It's so beautifully restored! Elegance and beauty all around! A generous gift to and by the city of Syracuse! Well done!
Beautiful old hotel recently remodeled. Still has a lot of the old touches from the Syracuse hotel. Extremely friendly staff. Nice large clean rooms. Restaurants and bars in walking distance and on site. 2 blocks from the Oncenter. Ordered room service from the restaurant downstairs. Wings were blah, flat bread was great. Sign said vending and ice but they didn't have any vending machines just ice machines. Very pleasant stay.
